Da Harrisoniano convinto (vedi www.beatall.it) il mio primo post non poteva che essere dedicato al semplicemente unico George. Questa canzone è stata incisa nel 1981 ed è dedicata da Harrison all’ex-collega ed amico John Lennon, assassinato un anno prima.
Le session vedono la straordinaria partecipazione di Paul McCartney (al basso, of course), di Ringo Starr (batteria) e di Linda McCartney (seconda voce), moglie di Paul. E come non citare la produzione del mitico “quinto Beatle” George Martin! In pratica alla registrazione hanno partecipato tutti e 3 i Beatles ancora in vita ed il loro produttore: ciò sarebbe capitato di nuovo solo 13 anni dopo, durante la creazione delle The Beatles Anthology. Ma questa è un’altra storia…
Il singolo divenne subito un successo internazionale raggiungendo il 2′ posto nella classifica statunitense ed il 13′ in quella inglese.
Pur essendo un tributo ad un amico scomparso, sia il testo che la musica sono toccanti ma mai mielosi e tristi. Spettacolare ed emozionante l’assolo slide di George. Ma ora ciancio alle bande e spazio al testo, da leggere rigorosamente mentre si ascolta la canzone!
